OPERATING WITH RESPECT FOR OUR COMMUNITY

A Century on Via Manin: Roots in the Modena Community

A hundred years ago, Chiarli moved its operations to Via Manin, little more than a country lane on the outskirts of Modena. Over time, the city has grown, and today Via Manin is at the heart of a large neighborhood not far from the Duomo and the Ghirlandina bell tower. For Chiarli, quality is a broad concept that also includes respect for and belonging to the local community and a deep connection to its Modenese roots: the modernizations and expansions that have taken place over time to keep the company at the forefront of wine production have always been driven by respect for the quality of life of the community in an ever-changing urban neighborhood.

The 2025 project: production efficiency and carbon footprint reduction

The latest major project, completed in 2025, to mark the centenary of the Via Manin headquarters, will enable Chiarli to address future market challenges by leveraging efficient and flexible production. A significant portion of the project was dedicated to reducing carbon foot print.

International Safety Standards

Chiarli Modena is committed to meeting the highest international quality and safety standards in the food and beverage industry. For years, the company has held "higher level" certification according to the IFS (International Featured Standards) scheme, part of the GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative). This involves periodic audits—including unannounced ones—to ensure that our practices are always aligned with the highest food safety standards, without sacrificing tradition or innovation.

This certification attests to the robustness of our HACCP self-monitoring system and our ongoing commitment to preventing any risk to consumer health by continuously implementing quality standards throughout the entire production process.

Sustainability in Action

In Modena, where it all began, sustainability isn't a declaration of intent: it's a process. Concrete, measurable, and evolving.

In 2024, Chiarli Modena began the process for certification EQUALITAS — the main benchmark for sustainability in the Italian wine sector — completing an integrated assessment across three dimensions: environmental, ethical, and sustainable economic. In 2026, the Group achieved this qualification, the culmination of work that involved every level of the organisation and required methodological rigour, transparency, and a willingness to examine its own footprint in depth.

Measure First, Then Improve

The first step in the certification process was measurement. The analysis mapped the environmental impact of the entire operation—carbon and water footprint, energy consumption, waste management—precisely identifying the main emission sources. The most significant result concerns the supply chain: packaging, raw materials, and logistics account for more than direct production. This data informs decisions and defines priorities.

Investing in the Future of Our Plant

Alongside the certification, Chiarli Modena continues to invest in its historic plant: technological upgrades that improve production performance, reduce consumption, and increase energy efficiency. The IFS Higher Level certification confirms compliance with the highest international food quality and safety standards. Environmental sustainability and product quality, in this sense, are not separate objectives.

Building a More Responsible Supply Chain

Much of Chiarli Modena's impact lies upstream—in suppliers, materials, and transportation. This is why the next step isn't just about the plant: it means initiating a structured dialogue with supply chain partners, sharing reduction targets, and building a more responsible value chain. This work will take time, but it has already begun.

Modenese Roots, Concrete Responsibility

Chiarli has been part of Modena for over 160 years. This bond is more than just history: it's a commitment to the community, the region, and the people who work there. The Group's first Sustainability Report—now available download here —document this journey transparently: not as a final report, but as a starting point for continuous improvement.
